Springfield Mallards Final Review (2042-90)
SPRINGFIELD MALLARDS 2042
The first one of our minor league affiliates to finish their 2042 season was our short season A affiliate in Springfield. Their final record of 46-30 (with a +146 RD) was the most single season wins for the Mallards since they went 57-13 in their inaugural season. The Mallards won the Supremacy Series that year in 2035 but haven’t been back to the post season since. This year they fell three games short of securing a wildcard slot in the SL2 Mainland division. Springfield won seven out of 15 one=run games and four out of the five games that went to extra innings. The Mallards were dominating at home winning 29 of 38 games played at the 13,300 capacity West Hill Fields, but struggled away from friendly confines, only winning 17 games. The 87 home runs they hit were second in SL2 while their starters ERA (4.38), their strikeouts (699) and the opponents batting average (.254) were all ranked third in the SL2. On the Angela Drake League batters leaderboard 23-yr-old RF Claude Proctor led the entire league with 22 homers, a .321 ISO and a .193 OPS+. On the pitching side Kyoji Nishida kept Mallard’s opponents down to a .146 batting average against him, the best in the league while he was also second in the league with a 12.5 K/9. Bartolo Deleon was one of two pitchers that went undefeated in the 2042 season (5-0 in 15 starts), both of which now are tied for the second longest single season undefeated streak in the history of the Angela Drake League.
Claude Proctor owned nearly every Springfield batting record for 2042, but catcher Roger Price had the most doubles (16) and SS Mario Garcia legged out the teams only triple of the year. Bartolo Deleon & Kareef Baha owned the majority of the team’s 2042 pitching records
