Aviators FPL Rosters Announced 2041-39 (Wichita 2041-13)

Baseball springs to life again as the Wichita Aviators announce the roster and line-up for this year’s Florida Prospect League. We’ve hired a new manager & assistant manager for this year. Salvador Martinez will be this year’s Manager, while he hasn’t had a job since 2034, he has a raft of experience, managing 20 years at all levels of the BBA minor league farm system. The Assistant Manager will be Emilio Clemente, another one who’s been out of baseball for a while, but he’s had 10 years’ experience as a hitting coach, spending his last five years at AA level.

Without seeing any of the farm play, the minor league seasons had finished before I arrived in Wichita, this year is going to be very much hit or miss. We’ve aimed to select a roster of 27 players between 20 & 24 and just see where they are. It’s my first opportunity to see any of them on the field.

I don’t remember how we selected the players, the coaches and I had rather too many watching the Cartwright Cup series, the idea was to pick players, not necessarily the best, but ones that had room to grow. Given that I hadn’t seen any of them play, we’re about to take a leap of faith.

I know a lot of the guys don’t like the FPL because of the injury risk, but I really like it. I’ve had a couple of guys really bump after FPL stints (including Hao Hang). That said, I’m very cautious about which pitchers I send after RP Raul Jaramillo blew out his arm a couple of seasons ago.

I've always been a fan, especially if you've just joined the team like me. It gives you the chance to see some of those that may be in line for a promotion or demotion. I normally don't have any qualms about sending top prospects there but when I haven't seen what their season was like I'm a little bit more reticent. I just wish it was 50-60 games long so you could get a better view
