The biggest off-season decision that lays in wait for the Aviators is whether to execute Bryan Robson or not. Ahem...the biggest off-season decision that lays in wait for the Aviators is whether or not to execute Bryan Robson's contract option.
The twenty-nine year old ace utility man was finally acquired by the Genius mid-season, after years of trying to pry the stud from the California franchise. The price was a bag of hammers, and California added in a butt ton of cash to make the deal work.
Robson is due $4.3 million for each of the next two years, with a buyout of $900K preceding each season. Robson appeared in 37 games for the Aviators in 2040 and played in six different positions. Of course, he didn't even clear .600 OPS in 89 plate appearances.
Of course, with the recent roster purge, there would be no right handed utility man available on the Aviator franchise to replace Robson. Of course, $4.3 mill is a lot to pay for 90 plate appearances. And he has been complaining a lot lately about his lack of playing time. And he always seems to be hurt.
"Robson has been a bit of a whiny bitch lately," confirmed the Genius," But...he is kinda cool."
Executing Robson's option will likely eliminate any available funds to chase after a free agent arm this off-season. But, who knows what the Genius will do?
