The Genius is a master at finding diamonds in the rough. This year's designated hitter platoon were both found for nothing by the Wichita GM.

Twenty-five year old Gustavo Aguilera, was claimed off of waivers from Atlantic City in late May, and proceeded to tear the cover off of the ball against lefties for the rest of the season, registering a .842 OPS and 5 homeruns in only 87 at bats. Aguilera was re-signed for 2041 season for a measly $900K.

"Atlantic City has no clue what they're doing," grinned the Genius," Seriously? A 67 win team can't use Aguilera?! Whatev's dude."

Twenty=seven year old, Jose Carlos Gallegos was snagged from Brooklyn on waivers after the mid- April roster cut downs. The player was only one year removed from All-Star and DH of the year honors in 2038 for the Robins.

Gallegos went on to have his statistically best ever season with 19 homeruns and a .885 OPS in only 310 at bats. Gallegos re-signed with the Aviators for 2041 on a single year, $1.8 million deal.

Gallegos had actually been an Aviator transfer target prior to the 2038 season, when they snagged him on waivers; only to have the league office reverse the decision and return him to Montreal after they cried about something. Montreal then turned around and dealt Gallegos to Brooklyn for some trash a week later. A curious decision by the league office, and curiouser decision by Montreal. The whole episode left a heavy stink of collusion hanging over the league office and the Montreal and Brooklyn franchises. Not that anyone noticed.

"We've locked up an .860 OPS at the designated hitter position in 2041 for a paltry $2.7 million," grinned the Genius," And likely at least 30 homeruns...so that's cool."
