2039.06 Aviators end disapointing 2039 season

The Wichita Aviators ended the 2039 in bitter fashion, failing once more to reach their goal of .500 ball, ultimately finishing at a 79-83 record.

A brutal 9-20 August, scuttled their season.

On the plus side, the Aviators recorded their first ever positive run differential, 786 to 776, which they mainly achieved by shaving off 86 runs off their previous team record low of 861 runs against, set in 2036.

The main reason for the increased success at preventing runs against, was the big league rotation of Kevin Morales, Jesus Ramos, (both acquired in 2039), Hirotada Miura, and Hiroyuki Rin, (both acquired in 2038), and the resurgence of knuckleballer Abe Colbert Jr., who erased the memories of four painfully horrible seasons in Wichita, with one superlative, (albeit final) season in 2039 for the Aviators. Thirty year old lefty, Esteban Sanchez, also turned in a solid performance for the Aviators, in his contract season.

So even the positives for the 2039 Aviators are turning out to be negatives. Joining Sanchez and Colbert in their exodus, are several Wichita relievers; Norberto Leon, Johnny Morin, Dan West, Kidanu Cherono, Pepe Jaramillo, and Celestino Balazes, are all leaving the club for free agency.

The 2040 Aviators are only returning eight pitchers from 2039, with no real options coming up from the minor leagues. Tony Alomar, (23 innings), Martin Torres, (21 innings), Luis Garcia, (18 innings), and Lane Aldridge, (64 innings), will all see a much increased work load in 2040, and at least five new teammates on the pitching staff!

At least most of those guys are pretty replaceable;upgradeable.
