2038.13 Stowing the Overhead Bin DH

Designated hitter

There wasn't too many 50 homerun guys in the BBA in 2037..although I am too lazy to look it up...in fact there is probably not even very many guys with 135 homeruns over the last three seasons. So why did Ed Curry's decision to trigger his final option year seem like a bad omen for the 2038 Aviators?

Well, $12 million is a lot of money to give someone to mainly spit out sunflower seeds, occasionally hitch up his pants, and go swing a bat a few times a day. But it's a deal the Aviators have happily made in the past.

The biggest difference between the past and now, is that Curry is now thirty-five years old. It strains credulity that Curry will exceed 50 homeruns in 2038; it is 99% assured that he will regress in 2038. Th biggest question of 2038, is how far? How much worse will Curry get this season? Will he 'enjoy' a season like 2036, in which he amassed a 1 WAR, or will he be even worse? The Aviators now get to pay $12 million to find out the answer to this question.

Moving the previously short right outfield porch fence out twenty-five feet, should help the Aviator pitchers; but it should depress the hell out of the ancient Slugger. And think of all the poor Wichita scamps, ten year old's and professional ball retrievers, that feasted on homerun balls in the right field corner...now all they'll get is fly outs caught at the wall. They will go from improving their catching skills, to improving their throwing skills as they pelt with garbage, outfielders mindlessly stealing their souvenirs.

The nice thing about designated hitter, is that you can throw anybody there. So, basically backing up Curry is everyone...in the organisation. But he'd have to be pretty horrific to sit in 2038. I'd say there's absolutely no chance of that. Because you always have to bet on a $12 million man to come out of his slump. If he never does...well...

The Aviators have absolutely no elite hitters in their system. Barren. But, like its been said in the past, corner outfielders and first baseman are pretty easy to find via trade or free agency.
