2038.10 Stowing the Overhead Bin Third base

Third base

The BBA scratched their collective heads and guffawed loudly during the 2036-7 silly season when Wichita inked thirty year old journey man third baseman Gunboat Driscoll to a guaranteed four year, $4.4 million deal.

Wichita Genius, GM Hopkins let them laugh. He knew better, he knew how to untap the great potential lurking inside of Driscoll.

Driscoll proved everyone right, but the Genius, in 2037, hitting a career low .686 OPS.

Driscoll did prove wrong all the doubters who had concerns about his fielding, he committed only 14 errors for a -2.9 ZR in full time third base duty. His fielding was more than adequate in 2037.

Over this past winter, Gunboat lost all ability to move. His infield range is now '2'. He can no longer perform adequately in the field. He more or less proved an inability to perform at the plate in 2037.

Luckily, the Aviators employ Carlos Guerrero. The twenty-two year old would seem to have the ability to field at third base, however he didn't show it in 2037, with a -3 ZR in 200 big league innings. He did, however, muster a better OPS than Driscoll.

In AAA, the Aviators boast seventeen year old phenom, Miguel DeLeon at the hot corner. Actually, DeLeon was a sixteen year old phenom...now he suggests nothing more than hot garbage. Still he's only 17, so its conceivable that he can work back some of those lost potentials.

Luckily, thirty-five year old Mark Dempsey, still lurks unemployed in free agency.

The biggest question in Wichita these days, is how many bad contracts is the owner willing to eat?
