2038.05 Stowing the Overhead Bin catcher

Catcher

The Aviators took a huge loss in the 2037-38 off season, when certain hall-of-fame catcher, Paul Scholes went through with his announced retirement.

At thirty-nine years old, Paul Scholes was no longer Paul Scholes...but he was still freakin Paul Scholes.

Scholes was the on and off field leader of the Aviators, worth far far more than his declining statistics indicated.

But, Don Logan is still here. Mercenary, poor defending, on base machine, which is fine if you dig singles...stealing bases catcher.

Replacing Paul Scholes with a guy like Logan is a bad joke. Sure Logan has a career .420 OBP...but Scholes has entire songs written about him. Who can forget the epic 'Paul Scholes' sung to the tune of...I forget the original title...give me a minute...oh yeah...'Hey Jude'

Paul Scholes, don't get so mad
Take a good staff and make it better
Remember to let them aim at your glove
Then you begin, to make them better
Better better better better better

Na na na na na na na na

Every park in the BBA, sang the song when Scholes came to town, (except for Yellow Springs, they had difficulty remembering the chorus).

So yeah, Don Logan is still around. For one more season at least, then his contract expires.

Looks like it will be Andrew Van Antwerpen carrying the equipment and getting the left handed starts. Van Antwerpen looks like a slightly worse, opposite hand version of Logan, right down to their personality defects of shitty leadership and work ethic and indifferent defence. It's presumably gonna be Antwerpen as the backup because he's a Rule V pickup...so he's either here or back in the Nashville minors where he belongs.

If for some reason, the Aviators sour on Antwerpen, Leon Corchero, looks ready to go with the bat...but he needs to learn how to play defence. There is also Ricardo Arellano, who can play defence, and Jerry Flores, who can play defence too.

Then again, the Aviators have a history of last minute catcher additions, so who can tell?
