The Wichita Aviators announced their 34 man roster today, securing 17 positional players from the clutches of the jackals of the BBA in the upcoming Rule V draft.
"Big holes..."grimaced Wichita Genius, GM Hopkins," We got some big holes to fill on this team."
The Aviators lost third baseman, Don Draper, to free agency at the conclusion of the 2036 season, and they seem highly unlikely to re-sign him.
"The guy thinks a lot more highly of himself than I do."confirmed the Genius," Although...he is pretty good..."
The Aviators also lost old man Clough to free agency, in a move that pained the Aviator GM.
"I hated like hell to buy him out of his last year," grimaced the Genius," But we have to get more production out of our 1B and DH which unfortunately, are the only positions he can still fill. We got Curry and Perez to play in those spots...and Hoover is starting to knock on the big league door. We just don't seem to have a roster spot available for Clough."
The Aviators, (when healthy), boast a steady work manlike crew of solid players, with no real stars. Second base is the domain of Sparky Anderson, and shortstop looks like it will be filled by youngster Alex Ramirez.
The outfield is staffed with Alvin Dickinson, Pedro Martinez, and Chet Gabriel, a trio that should all be able to reach 20/20 seasons in 2037. Their platoon mates Bob Hernandez and Pedro Iturbide seem capable enough defensively and offensively.
The catching position looks like it will be manned by Forryan on a more or less full time basis, with ancient backstop Scholes around to provide veteran leadership to the troops. The only other backstop on the protected list is youngster Anibal Garcia, who may or who may not, carve out a role for himself.
The other four protected members of the squad are utility men Ismael Pena, and Piero Richelmi, right handed batter Carlos Guerrero, and left handed bat Jose Ramirez
"We're not horrible,' admitted the Genius, "And we definitely have to fill third base with a body...and I guess we have the financial clout to plug in a star just about anywhere...there is definitely room to improve."

Sparky Anderson must have gone to the same school of how to play 2B as Mons Raider. A lot to like with the glove. A lot not to like.

I would love to return Ole big head to Louisville as well but there just isn’t a roster spot just like on Wichita. A Hall of Famer for sure but at 43 doesn’t have much of a shot at retaining a BBA slot
