2037.02 On a Higher Plane Awesome pitching

In breaking news, the Wichita Aviators pitching staff still sucks.

First round pick, (2nd overall), Zac Johnson, failed to sign with the Aviators, and seventeen pretenders have been protected from the clutches of the rest of the BBA in the Rule V draft.

All seventeen pitchers are just good enough to make a big league staff, while none are good enough to hold down the 1-3 spots in a big league rotation. To make matters more fun, only one, (probably the best one of the bunch, Lane Aldridge), still has minor league options.

"Just like last year, I'm gonna throw the bunch of shit we have against the wall and see what sticks," sighs Wichita Genius, GM Hopkins, " Whoever plays well enough in spring training will stick, and we will likely lose the other four or five on waivers for nothing...and then we will have a run of injuries early in the season...and we will end up with our third baseman starting both ends of a double header by August."

Forty-two year old, Vincent Acevedo, was recently signed as a free agent, to a two year deal, doubtlessly to anchor the staff with his vintage arm. Joining Acevedo as a free agent capture, is one, thirty-six year old, Juan Martinez, whose 6.00 ERA and fantastic combination of more walks and homeruns than strikeouts, most have convinced the Wichita GM that he was a better option than the existing staff.

Finally healthy for the upcoming season is Antonio Gonzalez, whose injury last season has removed any chance of him starting again for the rest of his career, as his stamina has dropped to pathetic levels.

Then there's a bunch of other dudes...probably too pedestrian to even mention.

"I think that third baseman may actually be our best option for Opening Day," grumbled the Wichita Genius.

I'm not sure how team-specific the demands are, but the spreadsheet I have from the draft lists his demand as $6.5MM

Acevedo and his “vintage” arm. Nice.

I guess we are all becoming “vintage”.
