The Oysters sent 4 players to the 2059 All-Star.
1B Malik bin Mazin was selected as 1B. He split votes with Mexico City 1B Marco Acheson who was selected by GM David Burcicki to start over bin Mazin. We've recently went over how amazing he's been this year.
1st year Oyster Mal Fountain was also selected as a 3B. Fountation is putting together another steady season with a 114 OPS+ and 121 wRC+ while playing better defense than the team got out of bin Mazin last year. He's playing his way into an interesting situation with a mutual option after this season for 2060. Does he opt-in and hope the team declines so he can go get a better contract or does he opt-out, leaving guaranteed money on the table?
Kiki Linares was selected as well, playing a lot of time at 2B and RF. After a down year in 2058, he's bounced back to already hit 22 HR's and drive in 68. His OPS+ is 116 and wRC+ is 121. His defense at 2B has been slightly below average while fairly average in RF. He appears to be on pace to break his career high 35 home runs set in 2055.
Last but not least, RP Bryce Sparks made the team. This is also his first year as an Oyster. On the season, he's 10-1 with 7 saves and 2.37 ERA. He assumed closer duties in late May. While he hasn't been your prototypical closers with only 7.42 K/9, he doesn't walk many people or allow a ton of home runs. Hitters on both sides of the plate OPS under .700 and has actually been better against lefties.
These 4 along with some other unsung heroes have lead the team to a 50-40 record heading into the All-Star game. This has kept them within distance of the Frontier Division title and right in the middle of the Johnson League Wild Card. With 5 teams playing for 4 spots, the All-Stars will have to keep up the level of play shown in the 1st half of the season to get back into the playoffs this year.
