Phoenix, AZ--
It's been a long road for future Hall of Famer Angel Zalapa. But after announcing his retirement earlier in the season, the 44 year old veteran was having a bit of a career renaissance of sorts, slashing .285/.357/.507 and recording 1.3 WAR in 65 games. But then he got hurt, and has been out of action the last two weeks with back problems.
"Yeah it's one of those Old Man things I guess," Zalapa said. "We're taking it slow and making sure everything is ship shape for the second half. It was really cool when I announced my retirement, because the random number generator inside this new OOTP program decided to make me a good player this season, so I could have a bit of a 'farewell tour' I guess."
"But now that I am hurt, I fully expect the RNG to totally nerf my season and make sure my WAR reads a big fat ZERO by the end of the year. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted," Zalapa said.
