2057-55: Talons Seem Destined to Miss Playoffs on Final Sim... AGAIN

Is anyone really surprised?

Within the past dozen season or so, the Talons have been eliminated from playoff contention in the final few days of the season so often that it's cliche now. At one point in the late 2040's, this happened to the club for 5 seasons in a row. And today, with 4 games remaining, Phoenix finds itself a game behind Jacksonville for the last Wildcard slot in the JL.

This past week was a pivotal one, with games against two tough divisional foes. But, honestly, splitting a 4 game set with Mexico City and taking two of the first three games against Calgary is probably the best the Talons could hope for, despite the week seeing two strong starts from Alaric Wullenweber (5-1, 2.87 with the Talons) and the huge week from C Ron Shiplack (1.054 OPS with the Talons), just activated from the DL.

The final sim of the regular season sees another game vs Calgary, and then the final three vs. Boise, all at Denny's Paul D. Lunn Memorial Stadium Presented by Subaru, where the Talons have a 46-31 season record. Wullenweber, who just pitched yesterday, is not currently scheduled to start any of the remaining games, in order for him to be ready for a potential Game 163 (or, hopefully, start two games in the first round of the playoffs).

Until then, all the Talons can do is hope that Calgary can stop Rocky Mountain, Charm City can put a hurt on Jacksonville, and that Phoenix can sweep 6th place Boise to end the year.
