2057-0021: Talons Trades And Moves And News And Notes And Stuff

Phoenix, AZ--

With continued improvement in their play as of late, the Talons currently hold the coveted 4th JL Wildcard slot. Yes, we know its June, but give us a break here. Also, the Talons did some things. Care to read about them?

Trade for Torres

The Talons drafted Manuel Torres 10 seasons ago, and now he has returned in a trade with Bikini to fill a role that has been lacking so far this year. As a super sub 4th outfielder and starter versus lefties, the speedy Columbian will hopefully do better than the incumbent Joo-il Paek, who has been placed on waivers.

Bye-Bye to Benson
Ted "Long Ball" Benson was a revalation for the Talons in 2056, being signed to a minor league deal and then getting called up only to hit 31 homers for the big club in full time action. An injury in spring training, however, delayed plans for a repeat and in the meantime, RF John Hopkins has capably filled in at the position, hitting .320/.385/.490. This made Benson expendable with only a week or so before he was finally ready to begin playing. Benson was traded to Charm City for cash considerations, where he will be able to provide power to the Jimmies' first place campaign.

Rule V Catcher Returned
Backup C Carl Mathews was gained in the Rule V draft, but was only able to play in 14 games before getting hurt. With homegrown AAA backstop Justin Bonfield now filling in for Klooster on occasion, Mathews and his remaining salary will be foisted upon Jacksonville, his former team.

Talons Sign Majority of Picks

Thanks to some handy cash infusions and money saving maneuvers, the club has signed 7 of the 8 players it drafted in the first seven rounds of the 2057 draft, including two first round picks with multi-million dollar bonuses. Not bad for a club that started the year $11 million in the hole!
