SO, yeah, like we said in the previous Team News (which was getting too long for a mere 2 points), the Talons finally made their two questionable draft choices after making the entire league wait. Here are the players that will be the latest to turn the Talons frequent "shitty drafts" complaint into a self-fulfilling prophecy:

Yes, the Talons finally have Tallent. This speedy outfielder is a bit of a departure from the Phoenix mold of big lumbering sluggers. The thing that sold the club on this guy was a scouting report they had literally never seen before about any player: "Teammates are in awe by the work Tallent puts into his game. Very intelligent player." So this really represents a good test. Can the intangibles make a guy perform better than his ratings would suggest? Can it even lead to a bump here and there? The Talons are about to find out.

With two first round picks, Phoenix had to be budget conscious. No $5+ million bonuses here. So when a player at an up-the-middle position also was reportedly an easy sign for no more than slot, it was a no-brainer. But is Lopez a decent player? He should stick as a BBA regular, with decent contact and the makings of a great batting eye. As a catcher, he won't win any Zimmers, but should hold his own, with above average framing skills to make up for an average arm. Lopez is also close to the majors as it stands now, and is likely to take over for Klooster as early as next season.
Go Talons!
