Phoenix, AZ--
Hey folks, Rob Powers here, sports reporter for the Phoenix Sun Times Post Dispatch (One of Phoenix's Finest NewspapersTM).
Ever since he was drafted in 2051, Joseph Mother has been a sensation in the Greater Phoenix and Central Arizona Metropolitan Area. I've been chatting via email with "Your Mom" to try and get a sense of what all the hype means to the Talons DH, described in official scouting reports as "humble" and "plays the game the right way". Here are some short excerpts from our conversations. Hopefully, you'll be able to see why I am so excited to get to know Your Mom a little bit better.
RP: According to your Bio, you've been to Korea, joined the Marine Corps, went to college and then dropped out to work at Burger King for 5 years before being drafted. How much of that is true?
JM: Let's just say that the TEMAFPD likes to have a little fun sometimes. Yeah I've been quite a few places, but playing in the BBA has always been my dream. I mean, when you're too smart for the Marines but too dumb for college, what else are you supposed to do? [smiley face emoji]
RP: In your first full season, you led the Talons in Runs, Hits, Home Runs, Walks, and RBI. Heady stats on a team known for its history of home run hitters. What's your secret?
JM: I figure, I might just be the most talented player to ever play the game with a 36 BMI, right? I guess that's "obese" in someone's textbook. But look, I just try and play baseball, you know? If I can put all that fat into a good swing and hit some dingers, then hey, whatever works, right?
RP: Everywhere the Talons play all we hear about is "Your Mom". How do you feel about that nickname?
JM: I'm all in favor of whatever gets the fans into the game. If they want to have some fun and its harmless, who am I to judge? I don't worry about it, to be honest. Just let the fans have a good time and get their money's worth. And maybe they'll see a good baseball game in the midst of all that entertainment.
RP: Speaking of good baseball, the Talons have started to turn around what was a horrendous start to the season. Do you think the Talons are on the right track? I mean, this is a team that seemingly refuses to rebuild. What's the direction?
JM: All I know is that I read somewhere that we have the highest Fan Interest in the BBA. So we must be doing something right. That sweep of Mexico City at home last week really seemed to spark something in the team and the fans. In addition, the club has gone out and signed good veteran hitters like Robert Chenoweth and John Hopkins to address some weaknesses in the lineup. Plus, our pitching is something like 5th best in the league. So maybe we're on the right track. All I know is, the guys are going out there and having fun, and the fans are into it, even on the road. This team has always had a cool, laid back vibe in the clubhouse, and that really pays dividends when things start to go good. It builds upon itself. So we'll see.
RP: Thanks Joe. I'll check back in soon to see how things are going. Take care.
JM: No Problem Rob. Write back anytime you need some Motherly Love, LOL.
GO Talons!
