2055-0002: Talons Spring Training News and Notes (TM)

Post by jiminyhopkins » Thu Jun 01, 2023 8:23 pm

Daytona Beach, FL--

With Spring Training wrapping up, why not take a good, long look at some more Talons News and Notes TM ?

Former Players Spotted at Camp
During the past month, keen observers of the Spring Training goings-on have noted the presence of two recently retired BBA regulars in camp. Apparently, Aki Kondo and Rashardo Menne III have been spotted working through drills with players in the back fields, mainly with the much younger members of the organization. Upon looking deeper into the issue, we can tell you that Kondo and Menne III have been hired as coaches for the Short-A Daytona Beach Cruisers, so they will stay behind in extended spring training while the rest of the club makes their way to San Antonio for Talons Opening Day.

Power Hitting Infielder Returns to BBA
On March 25th, the Talons gave (too much) money to an old friend, Chua-kah Yang. Yang had spent the last two seasons with Tokyo in the GBC, a team that the Reclusive Talons GM is all too familiar with. In a twist, Yang, ostensibly a 3B, has been slotted in as a second baseman for the Talons. Should be interesting given his range rating of 6. But at least he'll hit some home runs: his last season in PHX (2051) saw Yang hit 43 dingers with a 4.7 WAR. If he can do half that, it'll be a good signing, because according to @RonCo Ron Collins, there is no such thing as a bad one year contract. Hope he's right!

2.0 WAR SP from Last Season Sent Down after Poor Spring
25 year old starter Nick Rivers was a surprise last season, and even was mentioned in a previous edition of Talons News and NotesTM. But a poor Spring, which saw him pitch effectively in only 1 of 5 starts and only record 6 K's in 19 innings, means that the (relatively) young right-hander will start the season in Toledo. Or, and hear me out here, is it REALLY because Rivers in 25, and therefore under the Single-A age limit??? Hmmm. HMMMMMMMMM.

Go talons!
