Phoenix, AZ--
Instead of previewing another team we know nothing about, the Talons would rather just preview their own team, which is easier. Yeah it'll only be 4 PPT instead of 6, but we can't be bothered to research another team and do all that work.
So here are some Talons pitchers who will play this season, before they get injured, of course.
Starters
The number one starter will once again be Amayas Moelling, in his third year with the franchise. The new #2 guy is free agent signee Emanuele Mercati who, befitting his new team, has a morale of "very unhappy". Hey, you signed the contract, bud. Anyway, third starter will be Jorge Magdalena, who surprised everyone with a 10-7, 3.64 campaign last season. He probably won't do that again. Next is Don Jaramillo who, in pure Talons fashion, took a devastating ratings hit after his injury last season. At least he can DH a little. And finally, your favorite and mine, good old Don Smith, a guy who is actually the Talons career leader in WAR with 29.1. Who knew?
Bullpen
One thing the Talons have always had is a decent bullpen. In fact, getting this down to seven guys is a little tricky, but here's who will be opening the season. Stopper, Closer, High Leverage, and all-around good guy will be Tiernan O'Macken. Joining him at the pointy end of the bullpen will be veteran reliever Jose Arellano, along with 2052 waiver claimee (and reliever conversionee) Jim Thompson. Lefty Specialist will once again be Gil Phillips, mainly because there isn't anywhere else to put him. Tony Hidalgo will get another shot, mainly because he is a righty who is very tough on lefties. Long relief duties will likely fall to Rodney Keeley and Neil Davies, with Davies getting first shot at a starting role if needed. Ah who are we kidding, he'll definitely be needed.
Anyone in the Minors who can help?
Hahaha oh wait, actually yes there is. The Talons do have a few intriguing minor league arms, such as James Kidd (having a scoreless spring so far), Talons #1 pitching prospect (don't laugh) Angel Villanueva, who can start or relieve, and righty Willie Turner. Also, don't sleep on this guy, Abdul-Qahhar Nadeem, who showed up to Spring training with 17 stuff. Turns out, he's been in the org since 2043. Who knew?
GO Talons!
