Phoenix, AZ--
A new season. A new owner. A new manager. New Players, some of them future Hall of Famers.
But it wasn't enough to keep the interest of Talons' management.
Yep, after an 11-17 April that featured a devastating injury to the franchise's new superstar Ernest McBride, the front office kind of checked out. New manager and former Talons CF Thad Meyer is by all accounts a nice guy, but as a 41 year old rookie skipper he was clearly in over his head. New owner Denny D. Dennison set low expectations, and the club couldn't even reach those. Denny has cash, yes, but the structure of McBride's contract was roundly mocked in BBA circles. McBride was even added to the JL All Star team out of spite, just to make the Talons pay for their shinanegans.
The club had monthly records at .500 or below through July, as low as 7th place at one point. In August, the Talons posted a 17-11 record, but continued injury problems, this time to #1 starter Amayas Moelling, second baseman Bing-de Zhao, and bullpen ace Tiernan O'Macken ensured that there would never be a comeback. In fact, Talons players visited the DL more than two dozen times this season.
But the real enemy this year has to be a guy named Pythag, who said the Talons should have won 85 games but they only won 78.
What a jerk.
