THE DENNY'S PHOENIX TALONS HALL OF low STANDARDS PRESENTED BY SUBARU

INAUGURAL CLASS OF 2049

Carlton Winson was a third baseman who was selected by the newly formed Phoenix Talons in the 2029 expansion draft. A late bloomer if there ever was one, Winson did not play his first full time season until the age of 27. From then, however, he blossomed into an MVP caliber player and put together a career that eventually saw him inducted into the BBA Hall of Fame in 2048. Winson amassed 22.6 WAR for the Talons, including the franchise single season record 8.3 WAR in 2031, and later won two Silk awards, three Golden Bats, and was selected to 6 All Star teams. The quiet third baseman finished his BBA career with 485 HR, 1142 RBI, and a .938 OPS.

Jose Trujillo was a starting pitcher who came to the Talons in a 2032 trade with Omaha. The 5'10" right hander was no small man on the mound, recording 25.9 career WAR with the Talons to set the franchise all time mark in that category. His 90 wins with the club (out of 143 career) also mark the high point in Talons history. His 19 wins in 2035 led the Johnson League and he recorded a No Hitter that same season against Boise. He would finish his BBA career with a 143-115 record, 4.35 ERA, 36.7 WAR, and 17 complete games.




CLASS OF 2052

Thad Meyer was a Talons first round draft pick in 2033, going sixth overall. He was called up the next season and posted 2.3 WAR, which was good enough for 3rd place in the ROY vote that year. He continued with several seasons averaging 25 home runs and 40 steals, garnering two Platinum Sticks, two Diamond Gloves, and two All Star selections along the way. He totalled 24.7 WAR for the Talons and finished with a .274/.322/.473 career slash line in over 5500 BBA games. Upon retirement, he joined the Talons franchise as a bench coach, being named to the manager spot in 2052.



CLASS OF 2054

Bartolo Ortiz was a noted power hitter in the late 2030's and early 2040's who is perhaps most famous for being the primary return in the Carlton Winson (see above) trade of 2033. At one point the #7 prospect in the BBA, Ortiz helped Charm City in the 2032 playoffs, but it was with Phoenix that the big lefty bat truly blossomed into one of the league's premier sluggers. Amassing 29.8 WAR for Phoenix as a right fielder and DH, Bartolo in his time as a Talon was a 4-time JL All Star and garnered three Puckett Golden Bat awards. He also contributed to Talons playoff runs in 2035, '37, '38, and '39. In his career, Bartolo finished with 404 BBA home runs and 1144 RBI, with an OPS near .900.



CLASS OF 2057

Pankratz Isekenmeir is the Talons all time leader in games played with 1,556. He also leads the franchise in hits with 1,697. In addition, Isekenmier is second to fellow Denny's Talons Hall Of low Standards Presented By Subaru inductee Bartolo Ortiz (above) in numerous categories including runs scored (798), total bases (2,891), doubles (370), and WAR with 27.5. Pankratz was drafted in 2037 and played all or part of 13 seasons with Phoenix. His peak seasons were from age 20 to 27, with a peak of 4.1 WAR in 2045 at age 25. Unfortunately, in Spring of 2049 he missed time with flu-like symptoms, which sadly developed into Long COVID. He soldiered on, but never played the same again, suffering offensive and defensive declines as he battled the illness. He retired with a .282 career average, to go with 254 home runs and 807 RBI. Pankratz remains a valued member of the Talons family and has recently been in talks for a coaching job in 2058.
