2045-00018: Talons Have the 2nd Best Pitching Staff in the JL. And They Will Miss the Playoffs.

Phoenix, AZ--
The Phoenix Talons have finally figured out their pitching. Just in time to miss the last WC spot on the last sim. Again.
According to the stats going into the final few games, the Talons pitching staff as a whole is registering as 2nd best in the JL in all of the following categories: Staff ERA, Staff FIP, total K's, Walks allowed, Hits allowed, and Runs Allowed. In short, this easily qualifies as the best pitchign staff in modern Talons history. How did they manage this feat? Well, Aki Kondo and his 5.0 WAR have stabilized the rotation, which also features an injury free season from Don Smith (4.3 WAR). Meanwhile, relief ace Tiernan O'Macken has added nearly 5 wins of his own as he leads the staff in K's with 215.
So it must be the offense, right? Yeah, guess so, but the squad has still scored the 6th most runs in the JL, good enough for a +90 run differential, which is actually third best in the league. RF Ramiro Hernandez has enjoyed a breakout season, hitting 41 homers despite spending 5 weeks on the DL. 3B Pankratz Isekenmier has contributed another one of his steady, productive seasons with his first 4+ WAR campaign. Even fringe players have stepped up, notably Rule 5 pick SS Dashiell R. Faireborn, whose zone rating of +17.4 has contributed to his 2.4 WAR, good enough to likely net the Talons a Comp 2 pick next June.
So, in short, since the Talons really don't know why they will miss the playoffs and can't find anything else to blame, the franchise has decided to implicate the 2045 BBA All Star Game Home Run Derby. See, our DH Pedro Guzman actually won that contest, and, true to form, his swing was ruined and he has had a horrible second half, with a .652 OPS in August being his low point. Yep, if it weren't for the stupid Home Run Derby, the Talons would be in the playoffs. We think.
Got another theory? Let us know in the comments!
Like really, tell us why, because we'd really, really like to know. Finally get the pitching right and miss out again. Ugh.
