Just a straight news item this time, folks.
Well on his way to recording a second consecutive dominant season at AAA Ashland, Talons top prospect Pedro Guzman (11th overall, OOTP rankings) was given the call to the bigs today. He is expected to start at DH tonight as the Talons take on Montreal at Paul D. Lunn Memorial Stadium.
Guzman's 2041 season at AAA was overshadowed by the performances of Juan Mateo and Norihisa Yokoyama, even though he compiled an OPS of 1.116. Now, with the trade of those two players to Des Moines, Guzman becomes the premier power prospect in the Talons system. What's more, he's backing that up with another smashing year, slashing .354/.448/.662 and amassing 5.4 Wars for the Slowriders this season.
Will he ever be a passable left fielder? Probably not. But a fine DH he will be, when and if his 9/11/10/6/7 potentials come to fruition. Oh, wait. You mean the Talons already have a DH? The popular Bartolo Ortiz, with his 350 career HR and 1000 career RBI at age 28? Huh. Funny you should mention that. Wonder what the Talons are going to do with him?
