2042-02: Talons Sign 5th Round Draftee for One Dollar, Release Him, Re-sign Him as Free Agent for Another Dollar

Phoenix, AZ--

Ethan Treloar is a left fielder from the island of Aruba who was drafted by the Talons in the 5th round of the 2040 amateur draft. That particular draft, being particularly crappy even by recent standards, elicited record-low levels of attention from the Talons front office. Yeah, it was one of those drafts the team sets to "auto" even before the first pick. Then, the club offers $1 signing bonuses to the lot of them and calls it a day, never again checking the draft screen the remainder of the season.

But this guy called back.

Now, before we continue, the Talons want you to know that this guy really isn't good. At anything, especially baseball related. And apparently, he's some kind of a smartass, losing friends and demotivating people wherever he goes. Treloar is also been labelled as "Greedy", though again, apparently not in any way related to baseball, particularly his compensation for playing it.

Last offseason, Treloar was one of the unfortunate Talons who were released somehow while playing for the winter league team. Yeah, the club noticed a few of the players who were befallen by this transactional quirk, but apparently not Treloar. A few months went by, when the Talons were pawing through the free agent list looking for pitching. And, lo and behold, there he was. "Wow, we remember that guy," the Talons said during a rare front office meeting. "He was that chump who we drafted for a one dollar signing bonus. What a joke!"

Then, someone spoke up. "Lets troll the guy and offer him ANOTHER dollar to come back and sit on the short season A-ball bench as a 23 year old! Wouldn't that be hilarious?" So the call was made, the offer sealed, and the Talons had a good laugh. Following that, the Talons also had a good cry, once they remembered how bad the major league team was. But at least there was one glimmer of joy, gleaned from the gloom by sending a joke offer to an inconsequential player.

But this guy called back!
