2041-03: Talons are Losing, Nothing Can Change That. But at Least They Don't Have to Deal With THIS Asshole Anymore
Phoenix, AZ--
For the past few seasons, the Talons clubhouse has been reknowned for being among the best in the game, regularly scoring "Ecstatic" on the ol' clubhouse Morale-O-Meter. Players would sign below market extensions, and pending free agents would practically beg to stay on the squad.
But with the losing ways of the past two and a half months, patience has been wearing thin. Guys were getting restless, and it has reflected in their performance. Winning is the salve that heals all wounds; but in its absence, those bruises can fester. As the clubhouse began to descend into "Unhappy" territory, changes had to be made. Maybe not changes that would get the club to any sort of contention, but rather changes to preserve everyone's sanity.
So the Front Office began making some moves. AAA Catcher Vicente Diaz was called up to be the ML backup, with his leadership skills being seen as a positive despite his weak bat. In addition, LF Henry Rectenberg was called up from AA Medicine Hat (where he was slashing .345/.436/.626), himself already having a league wide reputation as a team captain at age 28. All that was well and good, but it was the last move that turned some heads.
Despite being one of the club's better pitchers (with a 4.31 ERA), reliever Mauricio Graete was given his unconditional release. He had always been a bit of a prick in the clubhouse, but his 153 ERA+ on the 90 win 2040 Talons team allowed many to look past his personality. But this season, with all the losing going on and Graete continuing his dickish ways, tensions began to mount.
So when the front office pulled the plug, there was a collective sigh of relief from the players, with many of them texting the GM and thanking the team for some welcome addition-by-subtraction. Will it be enough to get the club back to .500? Probably not. But it will make Paul D. Lunn Memorial Stadium a more enjoyable place to work for just about everyone.
Go Talons!

Based on his nickname, I wonder if Graete is related to this guy or if this was a scene straight out of the Phoenix clubhouse.
