2040-04: Talons Had Absolutely No Use For Their #2 Prospect, So They Traded Him
Phoenix, AZ--
When does a #2 prospect become redundant? When his club has better prospects who are closer to the bigs at the positions he plays.
The Talons, as most know, are loaded with 1B/DH/LF types who have a lot of power. But not all of them can play at once. The club has tried to unload some of their bounty of such players for the past couple seasons, but found no takers. One such player is Andrew Gallagher, an 18 year old power hitter who is attempting to learn how to play first base, in between gigs where he smashes watermelons in front of an auditorium full of old ladies.
OSA mysteriously ranks him as the franchise's number two prospect, and the Talons aren't entirely sure why, especially when the club has a future All Star 1B in Juan Mateo, who is only a year or so away from making an impact. On the DH side (the only other place Gallagher could play), the Talons have Pedro Guzman, a monster of a power hitter that will be ready soon as well.
So Gallagher, despite being a great hitting prospect of his own, had literally no future with the Talons.
This morning, The Talons made a deal with the expansion Charlotte Cougars that sent Gallagher, along with a minor league pitcher, over to North Carolina in exchange for veteran pitcher Egbert Behner, a player the Talons have had their eye on ever since the franchise played in the EBA as the Munchen Brauers. Behner, though having a so-so season last year, has averaged 5.0 WAR per season over his last three. And the best part? Charlotte was feeling so generous that they have agreed to cover 100% of Behner's salary.
SO, though Gallagher will undoubtedly be mashing in the bigs in a few seasons, the Talons decided to pick up a veteran SP to make one final run before their window closes, trying to make the playoffs for the fifth time in six years in 2040.
GO Talons!

I personally believe the No. 1 attraction to acquiring Behner was that his first name is Egbert. The heart wants what the heart wants.

Ironic in that it was also the No. 1 reason for dealing him.... Well, that, and he brought in Gallagher.HoosierVic wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 8:20 amI personally believe the No. 1 attraction to acquiring Behner was that his first name is Egbert. The heart wants what the heart wants.
