2040-02: Talons Say Goodbye to Platinum Stick, All Star, and 'Loveable Asshole' 3B Brendan Kerndl

One of the first things the Expansion Phoenix Talons did in 2029 was sign a young IFA third baseman from Germany. And now, Brendan Kerndl's career with the only team he has ever known will be coming to an end.

In one way or another, Kerndl will be moved to make room for the franchise's next 3B, Pankratz Isekenmeir, the club's #4 prospect. The Talons could simply non tender Kerndl and get the supplemental pick due to his WAR (2.9), or they could accept arbitration and either trade him, or leave him unprotected in the expansion draft, thereby taking up one of the three slots and possibly preventing the loss of someone the team really has plans for.

Kerndl's career has been successful as a hitter, even if his defense profiles as below average. In five seasons, he has a .268/.340/.490 slash line and has hit 149 home runs and driven in 423, for a career WAR of 13.8. In 2038 the then-25 year old 3B garnered his first All Star selection as well as the JL Platinum Stick award with his .952 OPS campaign.

Long rumored to have a prickly personality, Kerndl has become the "loveable asshole" (his words) in a clubhouse widely known to be the best in the game. While he may usually have a terse word for the media and a scowl on the field, behind the scenes he has been reported to pay for rookies' travel expenses as well as sponsor local golf outings benefitting childrens' charities.

Wherever he goes form here, Kerndl is sure to have an impact for his new team. Interested parties should contact the Talons front office before arb decisions are due!

True, but he's probably closer to $6M for a 2.5 WAR player overall. That's still right-priced. It will be interesting to see how he does in FA.

I am fairly certain you don't get a pick for non-tendering a player.

I read the section of the constitution regarding COmpensation picks... It talks about how you cant get a pick for declining a team option but it doesn't say anything about arb players as far mas I can tell....

If I am wrong please tell me as this changes my plans..........

I always operated that non-tendering a player is basically declining a team option. Anything the player doesn't have control of negates compensation I'd think.

Non-tendering a player does not provide draft pick compensation. Compensation essentially happens when a team loses control of the player, and the player leaves.
