Phoenix, AZ--

"So, Mr. Marko, it appears that you vote for every Talons player on the ballot, regardless of stats. Is this true?"

"Yes."

So there you have it. Pretty cut and dry, really. "I've never tried to hide it," he continued. "They are my players, and it's my team. AND... this is key here... they are ON the ballot. It's not like I am writing these guys in or something. If they are there, I vote for them. Every time."

"If they are not there, well first I look for any former Talons, like Tu-Fu Yong or Abdelwahab Kamade. Then, failing that, I just vote for the players by stats, such as HR for MVP, Wins for Cy Young, Saves for Reliever of the Year. You get the idea."

"In any case, if anyone has a problem with it, well there is an easy solution. On this site they use, Slack Plus or whatever, there is already a provision so that one cannot vote themselves GM of the year, as if I would do such a thing. Just make it so that you can't vote for your own players as well. I'm sure it's easy to do in Slack Plus if people really want it that way."

"Until that day, I will always vote for a Talon if he's there on the ballot. And if no one else votes for a Talon ever again, I do not care."

One can only imagine the conversations occurring about this pressing issue on Discord or Skype or MySpace or who knows what. But one thing is for sure, this is the first Team News in quite a while from the Talons. SO we guess it's a good thing?

Oh, by the way Phoenix won the division and got clobbered in the first round. Have a great offseason everyone!1

You think this is bad, you should sit through a high school coaches meeting where the coaches vote for All-Conference players....

The politics involved in that is insane. Coaches will vote other players low on their ballots in order to help their guys win. We used to have a rule where you couldn't vote for your own players... So if Team A had a player they thought was Player of the Year worthy, and Team B had a guy too, then coach of Team A would vote the TEam B player at the bottom just to rob points from the kid to help his own kid who he couldn't vote for.

I had a coach get mad at me and storm out of a meeting once because he thought his player was a top 3 kid. I voted him 7th because my team held him to 6 and 8 points in a basketball game so I voted based on what I saw.

see this shit is why I loved doing cross country and track. In cross country top 15 across the line were all conference and in track if you won or hit the state qualifying standard in the actual conference meet you got it. No politics involved.

Same for me. I ran CC in HS. Top were all conference in the conference meet. Top 15 in regional meet were all region.

Same for when I played golf. Top 5 were all-conference.

When I coached baseball and basketball it was coaches vote. And very political.
