2039-04: Talons Trade Boycott Not Working Out So Well

Post by jiminyhopkins » Thu Jun 27, 2019 2:39 pm

Phoenix, AZ--

The Talons supposedly had a trade boycott in effect, put into place after the ratings shift from a while back. But they apparently are used to the ratings now, (proving the Governing Board right, natch) because they made some trades over the offseason, acquiring three players who should have big roles in 2039.

In the first deal, 1B William Moreland was brought over from Nashville in exchange for two minor leaguers, P Roberto Ramirez and 3B Takafumi Fujita. Moreland is a fan favorite, who has already helped the Talons set a record for season ticket sales. Only 32, he already has 443 career home runs and 47 WAR, giving him an outside chance at the HOF someday. With some salary help from the Goats, his contract keeps him in Phoenix through 2041. Ramirez should be a quality reliever while Fujita could have value as a utility infielder.

In the next deal, the Talons needed a LF. Jose Colon was summarily shipped over from Yellow Springs, while one of the many good young second basemen in the franchise,
Blaine Tyler, was sent to southwest Ohio. Its a typical Talons deal, dealing from a positional strength to acquire a young power hitter. And while there is no doubt that Tyler will be quite good, Phoenix needed a left fielder after the departure of Lacaze, and the 21 year old Colon with his lefty power bat will fit quite nicely. He could even garner a smattering of ROY votes if all goes right.

Lastly, the Phoenix/YS hotline was active again as the Talons searched for some cheap depth at the back of their rotation. Elwood Blues was quickly acquired for minor league pitcher
Antonio Delgado, and now has appeared to win a rotations spot after a good spring. Blues is on a one year deal, so he's good insurance for the inevitable Talons Torn Labrum(TM) which will doubtless make itself known this year once again.

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.
