Phoenix, AZ--

The Talons, after swearing they wouldn't make any trades, proceeded to make some.

The first two deals were minor. The Talons needed a first baseman, and reunited with old friend Al Gordon. He came over from Brooklyn in exchange for Teruo Jouda, a young CF fringe prospect. Gordon, back with his old buddies on the Talons, proceeded to hit .389 with 2 homers and 6 RBI in his first five games in Phoenix last sim.

In the second minor deal, the Talons needed a shortstop, because Voitto Stromberg got injured again. Running the bases, again. Slow down Voitto, we already moved your baserunning slider all the way to the left! Anyway, the club this morning acquired Nashville SS Pedro Gomez, who is having himself a nice little season at .325/.380/.426. In return we sent over 1B prospect Nacho Mendez, who should find the bigs eventually, maybe as a corner outfielder.

The one that got people talking, though, was the purging of Lumpy LaLoosh and his contract to the New Orleans Crawdads. DOn't worry, we sent them some prospects too, namely former international signee 1B Raul Fernandez, LF Jesus Baez, and C Roeloff Klooster. The Talons have other 1B and LF in their system that are ticketed for the big leagues, so not too bad a loss there. But having to move Klooster hurts. The club was enamored with his skills on and off the field, and will miss the future team captain dearly.

The 'Dads, though, also sent over 29 year old lefty starter Hector Amaral, so it's not all bad. Despite being clobbered in his most recent start before the trade was announced, this is still a guy that has amassed nearly 30 WAR in his seven year career thus far. So, with the addition of a pretty good SP and the shedding of all that salary, the Talons felt it was worth giving up the prospects. We'll see if it translates into the club making it back to the playoffs this season or not.

Go Talons!

Jouda is an interesting player. His bat could play as a short side platoon. Before the ratings shift he had 6 contact and his VS LHP split is plus one. So I'm thinking he has a high 6/6/1/5/6 potential against lefties. Which isn't great, but he can play great defense at up to 7 positions. So if he's a platoon CF and a versatile defensive late inning sub(VS RHP) wherever I need him, he should carve a niche as a BBA player. Might need to sink some PP into him though.
