2038-04: Talons Just Can't Get Enough of Those Torn Labrums

Post by jiminyhopkins » Wed Mar 13, 2019 8:16 am

Phoenix, AZ--

The Talons pitching staff for 2038 continues to take shape. After trading for Maxime Manceau earlier in the offseason, Phoenix recently made a trade for knuckleballer Charlie Iron-Knife of the Hawaii Tropics.

In the deal, the Talons send over rookie league starter Sancho Torres, as well as Single A RF Daniel Serrano. It remains to be seen where Iron-Knife will fit into the pitching staff. As a two-pitch pitcher, he profiles as a reliever. But when one of those pitches is a 12-rated knuckleball, that could change things. Plus, Iron-Knife has a good history of starting in the minor leagues, winning 14 games with a 2.64 ERA over nearly 200 Triple-A innings in 2036. He was off to a similar start in 2037 when he suffered... wait for it... a torn labrum. Which means he will fit right in with the Talons. The injury affected his control rating quite a bit, but the Talons hope he can gain some of that back when he starts pitching again.

Talons Assistant GM Stu Coates had this to say about the deal: "Sancho Torres will eventually be a good starting pitcher. However his development timeline just didn't match up with our franchise goals. He's still a number of years away from making an impact at this point. As for Serrano, the young outfielder will help out with the Tropics' franchise depth."

He continued, "As for Iron-Knife, we're just not sure where he fits in just yet. The goal is just to get him pitching this spring and we'll find out whether he makes sense for our rotation. He may need a half season or so in the bullpen before we have him start any games. At the same time, we have been following this guy since the day he was drafted and we are excited to have him here with us."

I don't want to scare you, but Colbert has better ratings and he's been terrible since his control dropped...steep price to pay for Iron Knife

It was either that or wait 5 years for Sancho. Hopefully Charlie can hold down a spot at the back end of the rotation at some point.

I hate shoulder injuries. Please everyone feel free to inquire about all my pitchers that have had them.
