2038-02: Talons Trade for Starting Pitcher

The Talons' payroll is projected to be nearly as high this year as it was last season. So, despite a great looking free agent class, Phoenix doesn't look to be a major player. Therefore they have turned to the trade market to improve their starting rotation.

In a quick deal that came together in just a couple days, the Talons have agreed to terms with Edmonton in a deal that sends over SP Maxime Manceau from the Jackrabbits. In return, Phoenix ships off 2B Yi-ke Hsiao and AAA SP Marcos Morales. Talons Assistant GM Stu Coates summed up the deal.

"Marceau is a bit of a junkballer righty, but he has had undeniable success in Edmonton the last four seasons, including two years where he recorded 4.0 WAR campaigns. He has great movement on his pitches and should do well as a #3-4 starter for us," Coates said. As for the cost, we feel comfortable with the terms of the deal. Of course Hsiao is a tremendous young hitter, but his best position is second base, where we just had rookie Arturo Barron turn in a 30 home run season there. So Hsiao was a but of a redundancy for us. Morales is a good, young arm who actually has had a career WHIP below 1.0 in our low minors. He will add good depth to the 'Rabbits system."
