2037-20: Glitch in the Matrix Costs Talons Significant Injuries

Post by jiminyhopkins » Mon Jan 14, 2019 9:09 pm

Phoenix, AZ--

Somewhere, in an alternate universe, the Talons went 5-1 last week with no injuries.

But that timeline is gone quicker than a Star Trek movie reboot. Now, after a 4-2 week, the Talons are faced with the loss of their ace starting pitcher and their starting shortstop for significant lengths of time.

Any time a pitcher leaves a game with a shoulder injury, silent dread permeates the air; only broken by an old woman somewhere in the stadium screaming "DOOOOM!" in a plaintive wail. Such was the scene a few nights ago in a game against Nashville, in front of a sellout crowd of 45,000. With barely any emotion on his face, Lawrence Columbus LaLoosh finished his motion on his third straight called strike against Nashville hitter Harold Smith, signalled the dugout, and slowly walked off the mound, toward Talons trainer Ashton Bryant, who jogged out to meet him.

Wailing old women aside, Talons lefty Wilmot Schlondorff was quickly called in to pitch, and Phoenix won the game easily. But the mood in the dugout and clubhouse was tense the rest of the night, as everyone just hoped that the club's 125 million dollar man would be able to pitch again. As it turns out, LaLoosh suffered a partial labrum tear and will be out of action for two months, with rest and rehab being the prescribed treatment. Not much is known about how he will bounce back from this injury, but the effects of his 2029 flexor tendon tear included a year on the DL, followed by multiple Nebraska awards and All Star selections; a testament to LaLoosh's legendary work ethic and conditioning.

To make matters worse, the very next night saw Talons SS Voitto Stromberg injure his hip flexor tendon while running the bases. Stromberg was the main return to last season's Tu-fu Yong trade, and had been improving both his offensive and defensive ratings since coming over to Phoenix. Now, with Voitto on the shelf, the Talons lose a huge part of their infield defense at the same time their pitching staff takes a big hit.

As precarious as a 4 game lead over Las Vegas can be, this week it just got a lot more uncomfortable.

somewhere the 2017 buffalo bison are seeing the irony in this post....

In all seriousness, that sucks. I didnt realize stromberg had bumped like that, I was worried he was going to be great with the glove and mediocre with the bat. He should be a good piece for you.
