2037-07: Talons Announce Season Preview Series of Team News Articles

Post by jiminyhopkins » Mon Dec 10, 2018 8:40 am

With the Opening Day sim pushed back a couple days, this gives the Talons ample opportunity to put out their annual Season Preview Series.

As is the case every year, the Talons once again figure: why preview someone else's team and get 6 points, when they can preview their own team and get 14 points for the resulting 7 Team News articles this creates. What's more, the Talons surmise: they know their own team a lot better than anyone else's, so why take the chance of getting it wrong. Too often, the Talons argue, a season preview is posted, and the subject of that preview comments below it, saying how great the preview was, and then invariably listing what was wrong with it, e.g. "Great preview, but we will actually call up player X to play SS, and put pitcher Y into the rotation, and we plan on releasing Player Z before Opening Day."

So what's the point?

In addition, the Talons are pleased to see other teams start to go this route. One team actually had an extensive series with a separate article for each and every position, totaling at least 20 points. What's more, there are team previews and predictions every season in the excellent BBA Media Guide, so why duplicate matters with a separate article by someone that doesn't know the team?

Eventually, the Talons hope, the practice of trying to guess what another team is going to do will fall by the wayside, and teams can issue their own previews how they see fit, with the emphasis on maximum points if they so choose. Now don't get the Talons wrong; the Talons know this will be an unpopular opinion, and the Talons also know that, as a result, none of their forthcoming preview articles will even get any comments.

And that's fine, the Talons conclude, because the points count just the same.

Nothing is better than a Marko Meta Article.

FWIW, I like the double coverage. Hearing what a GM is trying to do is great.
