2037-01: Talons Needed One Player. They Got Him.

Post by jiminyhopkins » Wed Nov 28, 2018 10:59 am

Phoenix, AZ--

The Talons' first, and last, free agent signing of 2036-37 also happens to be the largest contract in franchise history.

The team was very quiet heading into the free agency period. A 2036 season shattered by pitching injuries had seemingly arrested all momentum from the club's 2035 playoff appearance. Aside from a few scattered minor league free agent signings, the Talons laid low, until a few days ago.

In a 5 year, $130MM deal, the club signed pitcher Lawrence C. Laloosh and immediately named him their ace and Opening Day starter. Laloosh, formerly of Yellow Springs, has 152 career victories and 52 career WAR at age 32. The contract would take the veteran righthander through his age-36 season.

Talons Assistant GM Stu Coates remarked: "We needed one guy. Thats all there was to it. Last year's injuries to 80% of our rotation were unprecedented, but everyone will be healthy for Spring Training. Now we have our #1 starter to top off the rotation, with Jose Trujillo and Bob Corrigan slotting in as #2 and #3 behind him. Our offense is already the class of the BBA, and our defense is getting better. Now that we have a solid rotation once more, our goal is to return to the postseason in 2037," he said.

As for the salary implications of this deal, in the words of one official: "Who cares. In the BBA you have to act fast and play for this season or next, not 2041."

Call us back in 2040 and we'll let you know if he was right.

LaLoosh is well on his way to the Hall of Fame. Overall, Phoenix's park--and the parks in his division--should help him, I think. I'm just glad he's not in the Frick. :)

I made a push for him honestly but it was only a 1-2 year contract that I could offer him because of re-signings I must focus on in the coming years. I figured I had no chance being a 1-2 year contract, but thought it was worth a shot.

Also, I wanted Ron upset he was wearing a Hawks jersey.

That is definitely a very solid top 3 arms. If healthy, Phoenix has the makings of a very good team in 2037!

Of course the team is still in Phoenix, and team's from Phoenix never have any success in the BBA!

I think this is an overpay I can get behind. Exactly what Phoenix needed.
