2036-05: Talons Make It So, Trade for Jean-Luc Lacaze

Post by jiminyhopkins » Thu Aug 30, 2018 3:46 pm

Phoenix, AZ--

Literally days after the Talons celebrated making a profit for the first time ever, they make a trade for a high priced outfielder.

But it might not be as bad as it seems.

In a quick deal this morning, the Talons traded for San Fernando Bears' outfielder Jean-Luc Lacaze. Also coming to Phoenix in the deal was 22 year old catcher Vicente Diaz, who was considered the #3 prospect in the Bears' admittedly shallow farm system. Lacaze is owed three more guaranteed years at $12.5 million each, with a couple of Team Options after that. Oh, and what did the Talons give in return? A baseball. A single baseball. One (1) baseball.

"Oh it's a shiny baseball, one of our best, thats for sure," said Talons assistant GM Stu Coates with a smile. "But in all seriousness, we understand what San Fernando had to do. We did a very similar deal just last season. Sometimes you just have to move payroll and open up the budget. Fortunately we were in a position to help out," Coates said.

"As for the players, frankly we are thrilled to get a pro like Lacaze," Coates continued. "He's a gifted defensive outfielder with power and speed. He is hugely popular with the fans. He'll sell more than enough tickets to make up for the salary. And, near the top of our lineup, I have a feeling he'll have some of the best years of his BBA career in Phoenix."

"As for Mr. Diaz, he has some pretty good intangibles as well. He also hits for power and has a great arm. We look forward to him being a great complement to Andres Martinez behind the dish, perhaps as soon as next season," Coates said.

Is it too soon for the Talons to start adding salary again, especially with high priced arbitration cases this season and in the years to come? Only time will tell!

For some reason I think he'll do well in Phoenix.
Good luck with it.

Looks like he has been on a big production down slide for the past 2 years maybe a new park can save him. Great pick up for fans in the seats.

I’m pretty sure you could have given them a scuffed up ball instead of a shiny pearl.

i would have gladly settled for a Mario deortiz batting practice ball, or maybe an Ignacio rodriguez signed one.
