Daytona Beach, FL--
Talons management, players, media, families, and guests gathered last night for one of the most anticipated events on the organizational calendar: Awards Night.
The event was held, as usual, in the Talons' winter headquarters: the Denny's located at the corner of Dunlawton Avenue and Clyde Morris Blvd in Port Orange, Florida, a suburb of Daytona Beach, the Talons spring training home. And at that Denny's (which cost a lot more than you would think to buy out for the night), various awards were handed out for various on and off field accomplishments by various members of the organization the previous year. Here's a quick rundown:
Hitter of the Year - RF Bartolo Ortiz: As the only piece of the Winson trade that has actually turned out well, we have to give him props.
Pitcher of the Year - SP Jose Trujillo: Led the team in wars and even signed an extension. Here's a medal.
Rookie of the Year - CF Thad Meyer: Finished 3rd in JL ROY voting. Easy to see a nice career from this guy.
Comeback of the Year - 3B Joe Pike: How about this guy, who went from -1.3 wars to +1.8 in less than two seasons?
Marketing Guru of the Year - CL Timofei Bakitski: There is already talk of "VODAK Night at the Ballpark" next year.
Nice Guy of the Year - SP Ignacio Rodriguez: He's the nicest guy ever whose "stuff" went from 12 to 6 in less than 2 seasons.
Outspoken Player of the Year - RP Dennie Gestel: When OOTP labels you "Outspoken", it must be for a reason.
Fair Dinkum Dissapointment of the Year - LF Domenic Wyatt: That Aussie charm only goes so far.
Guy We Have No Place to Play of the Year - LF Martin Marin: Sorry Martin, Wyatt wasn't taken in the expansion draft. Oh well.
Owner of the Year - We forgot his name: Thanks for cutting the 2036 budget, asshole. Now we can't extend anyone.
Overall it was a great night! GO Talons!
