2034-17: Talons get to play Huntsville! Yay!

Phoenix, AZ--

The Talons could use a break.

Just on the outside of the JL Wildcard race, stuck in the middle of the brutal JL Southern Division, Phoenix is four games over .500 at the latest point in the season in their history. The offense is as good as expected, the bullpen is surprisingly effective, and the starting rotation has managed to hold together despite another I-Rod injury. Even the fans are starting to come back to Lunn Memorial Stadium, and the franchise has a good chance of turning a profit for the first time in its existence.

So, imagine the feelings in the clubhouse and front office when they look up at the schedule and see a welcome sight: 7 games against the Huntsville Phantoms in the next 8 days.

A lot has been written about Huntsville lately. A GM has yet to be officially named, and many recent articles have explored the challenges facing the club with respect to its talent level and financial situation. Suffice it to say, this team isn't very good, and their appearance on the Talons schedule in such a concentrated fashion, at this point in the season, is nothing less than a "gift", in the words of an unnamed Phoenix official.

Talons players also have a few opinions on the coming week. "Every club has their ups and downs," opined center fielder Thad Meyer. "It's just fortunate that they are on the way down and we are on the way up." Pitcher Bob Corrigan also chimed in. "It will be good for this team and our fans if we can get 5 or 6 wins against the Phantoms. I told you guys [media] last year that things would change," Corrigan continued. "And look, now we have a chance to really assert ourselves and remain relevant into September, and maybe beyond."

But the best way to sum up the feelings in the clubhouse might just be in this quote from Talons reliever Dennie Gestel, known as an outspoken player, primarily because OOTP has assigned him the personality type of 'outspoken'.

"I hope we kick their ass!"
