2056. 11 "AI" to Join Analytics Team

Post by ae37jr » Thu Oct 05, 2023 9:04 pm

"AI" to Join Analytics Team Image River Monsters hire Anthony "AI" Innis as a sounding board. But will they like what they hear?

The Twin Cities River Monsters are not afraid to try new things. And with the recent advances of AI, the team has brought in AI expert Anthony "AI" Innis to give the team a neutral set of eyes. The team has been asking Anthony a series of questions to get his idea of how the team is set up, what their weaknesses are, what is the optimal lineup and pitching staff, and even how to beat other teams in the division. Here is an example of one such query.

How can I improve my team

To improve your team, consider the following strategies based on your player ratings:

Offensive Improvements:

Power Hitters: Acquire power hitters who can provide more home runs and extra-base hits to boost your team's scoring potential.

Contact and Eye: Look for players with better contact and eye ratings to improve your team's ability to make consistent contact with the ball and draw walks.

Speed and Stealing: Consider adding players with higher speed and stealing ratings to increase your team's base-running capabilities and put more pressure on opposing pitchers.

Positional Balance: Ensure that your lineup has a good balance of right-handed and left-handed hitters to exploit matchups against opposing pitchers.

Defensive Improvements:

Catching: Improve your catching position by finding catchers with better fielding attributes to enhance your team's defense behind the plate.

Infield and Outfield: Upgrade your infield and outfield positions by acquiring players with strong fielding skills to prevent errors and make more plays.

Pitching Staff:

Starting Rotation: Consider adding a high-quality starting pitcher to anchor your rotation and increase your team's chances of winning key games.

Relief Pitchers: Strengthen your bullpen with reliable middle relievers, setup men, and a dominant closer to protect leads in the late innings.

Overall Team Strategy:

Team Chemistry: Pay attention to the chemistry and compatibility of your players. A cohesive team often performs better.

In-Season Adjustments: Continuously evaluate your team's performance and make adjustments as needed during the season. This could involve trades, call-ups from the minor leagues, or shifts in the batting order or pitching rotation.

Scouting: Keep an eye on emerging talent in the minor leagues or in free agency to identify potential impact players.

Injury Management: Monitor player injuries and have a strategy in place to address them, whether through roster moves or minor league call-ups.

Team Development: Develop your minor league players to ensure a pipeline of talent for the future.

By focusing on these areas, you can work to improve your team's overall performance and competitiveness. Remember that building a successful team often requires a combination of short-term and long-term strategies.
The results seem somewhat cookie cutter, but AI did nail a couple of great points. We could use a big power bat in the middle of the order, We could definitely use an ace starter, our catcher defense does suck, and our bridge to the back of the bullpen has not performed well.

So how will Twin Cities process this information. General manager Alan Ehlers is an old head that brought in Alfonso Trinidad to increase RBI's. Will he actually use any of this information? Well, this is just one example of the suggestions Innis gave the team. The River Monsters are expected go further down the rabbit hole to try to improve the teams minor league structure, player and team strategies, contract negotiations and whatever else they can throw at the wall and hope it sticks. Then process that information as they seem fit.
