2042.4 Brooks Named Game 1 Starter

Brooks Named Game 1 Starter Image River Monsters tap homegrown pitcher for big game.

Now that the dust has finally settled in the battle royal for the 4th and final wild card spot in the Frick, Twin Cities finally knows with certainty who their opponents will be in the Geoghegan Series. That team is none other than the Portland Lumberjacks.

While Portland is no doubt a very talented team that has loads of playoff experience, it's no secret that the River Monsters may have dodged a bullet by avoiding the upstart Des Moines Kernels. Des Moines narrowly missed the post season, losing a 12 inning play-in game and had perhaps the best pitcher in the BBA lined up to pitch Game 1 and 5 if they had advanced. That is all hypothetical now though. Twin Cities attention now turns to a Portland team that has beaten them 4 out of 6 times this season.

Toeing the rubber for game one will be homegrown Erik Brooks. Brooks gets the call for a variety of reasons. First, he is on a hot streak with a 2.25 ERA in his last couple of starts. Second, he's got 9 wins and a 3.11 ERA at home this season. And third, he has held right handed hitters to a 1.02 WHIP this season. Without Rex Foster in the lineup, Portland figures to be righty heavy. These 3 factors appear to put Brooks as the best choice to pitch games 1 and 5(if needed) Both in Minnesota.

After Brooks, it's anyone's guess. The River Monsters don't use a set hierarchy of pitchers. It's pretty much a next man up type of system. We have been told that due to the added in off days, Twin Cities will only be carrying 11 pitchers and have opted to carry 2 more bats than did during the regular season.

Was always a big fan of Brooks and thought I was gonna draft him. Luckily others fell to me, but kinda rooting for him, kinda not this week.

Isn't the first round only best of 3?
