TWC 48.02 The Rule 5 Rebuild (and other cast offs...)

Post by Spiccoli » Wed Sep 08, 2021 2:01 pm

When there's no money to be found... there's no shame in digging through the trash to find other people's cast offs. You just never know what other teams might throw away... even if it's by accident.

With an angry, miserly Owner... any contract over $500K is too much these days. Fortunately, there's been a few nice finds in recent years in scrap heap. The only issue is that these players are likely not ready for the BBA... but when your team looks to suck, who cares if you're playing a 25 rated Secondbasemen... he could be somebody someday...

SP Nelson Hoskins
Age 25 - LHP - POT Ratings - 10/7/8 60/65
Acquired - Rule 5 - 2045 from Valencia
One of the more promising young players. Hoskins was on fire out of the gate last season before being injured early. The TWC front office has been treating Hoskins with delicate gloves since. Hoskins really blossomed after TWC picked him, going from 7/5/6 to 10/7/8.. with glimpses of 11 rating stuff. TWC may look to move for younger players since there's no reason to keep him until he demands money he deserves. It'd be hard to let him go...

RP Pablo Alcantra
Age 22 - RHP - POT Ratings - 14/6/4 50/50
Acquired - Rule 5 - 2046 from Yellow Springs
Pablo is on the cusp of moving into higher level reliever... SInce being picked up from Yellow Springs, his Stuff has improved from 12 to 14. He wasn't ready to be on a BBA roster last season and got roughed up, but he's showing that he could be ready for the BBA this season... putting up a 12+K per 9 innings and getting his walk rate down. However, as he is now, he'll always have issues with control.

RP James Kidd
Age 24 - RHP - POT Ratings - 11/7/5 55/55
Acquired - Minor League Signing 2044 - Released from UEMBA (Cairo Chariot Archers)
James Kidd was a UMEBA cast off and TWC quickly scooped him up with a $2+ Million signing bonus in 2044. He's improved a little since joining and appears to be future quality middle or set up reliever. Kidd is going to see plenty of action in 2048 and get the chance to prove himself.

SP/RP Sotaro Abe
Age 23 - RHP - POT Ratings - 9/6/6 45/55
Acquired - Rule 5 - 2047 from Long Beach
Picked up in Round 4 of the 2047 Rule 5, Sotaro is a flyer. He's borderline and could go either way. With the team going nowhere in 2048, TWC figured why not. He's young enough to possibly improve to a mid rotation starter.

RP Jorge Rivera
Age 24 - RHB - POT Ratings - 9/7/7 55/55
Acquired - Waivers - 2047 from Chicago
As the TWC GM, I should take a closer at the Chicago pitching staff. How did they put this guy on waivers? Is their staff that stacked? ... sigh. Anyway, it's not often you can find a 55 rated, 24 year old pitching on waivers... and is still making the league min. Perfect for TWC right now.

2B Aurelio Aleman
Age 23 - RHB - POT Ratings - 6/9/7/7/6 40/55
Acquired - Rule 5 - 2047 from Vancouver
While the TWC minor system is jammed with pitchers, there's zero future BBA prospect position players in the system. It was a nice surprise to pick Aurelio in the 2047 Rule 5. He's not quite ready for the BBA, but he's going to get a face full in 2048... Time to Sink or Swim Aurelio... Best of luck.

Oh.. and the dude is fast and can actually bunt.

RP Hilarious Stohl
Age 22 - RHP - POT Ratings - 12/5/7 20/60
Acquired - Rule 5 - 2047 from El Paso
Likely a tough choice from El Paso to put on the 40 man roster, Stohl definitely isn't BBA ready, but with 8 stamina, could be a future Reliever workhorse, but he's got aways to go before being a full time reliever. For the time being, he'll see time during junk innings... but there could be quite a few of those in 2048.

SP Rubén bin Majid al Din
Age 22 - RHP - POT Ratings - 10/7/6 55/65
There's likely a former assistant GM in Portland looking for a job after leaving Majid al Din (now referred to as RBMAD) off the 40 man roster. The real surprise is the three teams in front of TWC who left RBMAD off their draft lists. Currently rated the #25 BBA prospect, he's going to see some quality innings on the BBA roster, but with a tight pitch limit to limit injury risk.

Really wish his initials were RUMAD to remind @7teen for years to come.
