With veteran pitchers Josh Brown and Ragnar Rothbrook having disappointing seasons, the River Monsters turned to former UMEBA Pitcher of the Year, Ramon Suarez.

Suarez was selected by the River Monsters Rule 6 draft, depriving Baghdad of their number 1 starter. Boise offered the best contract for Suarez, but Twin Cities matched the offer and made Ramon a River Monster.

Suarez initially struggled in Spring Training and early in the season. The Front Office sent him down to AAA to work things out and Ramon was lights out at Duluth (AAA), throwing 18+ innings without giving up a run.

It looked like he was ready and worth the Rule 6 draft pick. And since coming back up, Suarez has been extremely effective in relief.

GM Piccoli suggested (demanded) Suarez be giving a chance to start since he was so successful at being a starter in the UMEBA and he’d been effective at throwing multiple innings in relief.

Going against Madison for his first BBA start, Suarez earned the win, going 5+ innings, only giving up 1 run over 5 hits. With the Twin Cities recent disasters coming out of the back of the rotation, Suarez’s outing was a gem.

Historically, it appears that Suarez will be the first home grown UMEBA pitcher to win as a BBA starter, in his first start none the less.

He’ll be given another chance in a few days to repeat his success...
