42.02 - The 2042 River Monster Offense - Infielders

Post by Spiccoli » Mon Mar 30, 2020 11:13 am

After the opening week in the books, the offensive lineup for the River Monsters was revealed and it seems to offer several platoon situations to take advantage of player's strengths and avoid their weaknesses.

Catcher

Joe Bradshaw
With two very good catchers, picking the starter came down to the better offensive player. Joe Bradshaw definitely handles the bat better and Parker Davenport is much better defensive catcher. Joe will take most of the start against Righty Starters with Parker starting against Lefties. However, Joe is likely to see some action at DH against Lefties as well.

First Base

Jose Cordero
There's no surprise here, Jose Cordero will see most of the action regardless of whose pitching. Jose Calderon has developed into an extremely solid hitter against right handed pitching and may see a little time at first base, but will fill the DH role otherwise.

Second Base

Francisco Arredondo
Earning a spot on the All Star Team in his Rookie Season, Francisco Arrendondo has 2nd Base all locked up for the long term. He's just over-all very good player... With the bat, in the field and can run the bases.

Third Base

Ricardo Aragon
After struggling to find his way in the BBA, Ricardo Aragon emerged last season in a big way playing the Lefty hitter side of a platoon at the Third Base. When facing Lefty Starters, Ricardo will share time with rookie Jose Benevidez. Also, it appears that Benevidez may come in late in games as a defensive substitution for Aragon as Jose is a far superior defensive third basemen.

Shortstop

Mark Wareham
Twin Cities brought fan favorite, Mark Wareham, back to play short stop. The team moved on from 35 year old Braun who was a much better fielder than Wareham, but struggled at the plate. The team is hoping to utilize Mark's ability to get on base for the big hitters in the 3,4,5 spots. Teaming him up with Francisco in the 1/2 spots, fans are hoping for some of that old magic from the playoff days that had Wareham and Gorilla Man playing SS/2B and hitting 1st/2nd in the order.

Utility Fielders

Juan Luis Manuel
With so many platoon situations, the River Monsters really don't have any players left for the Utility Role. The main exception is 2041 Rule 5 acquisition, Juan Manual. Juan is extremely gifted in either the infield or outfield and will likely be used heavily by the River Monsters to fill in for injuries or give starters rest... His lack of ability at the plate is the only limitation holding him back from being a full time starter.
