The Twin City Roster lost yet another 2 veterans after SS Mark Wareham and 1B/DH Albert Goana elected to opt out of their contracts. However unpopular with fans, the moves are mutually beneficial as Twin Cities is in no position to compete in the short term while still dealing with a couple of bad contracts and both players will be able to contribute on contenders.
1B Albert Gaona
.246 BA / 35 HR's / 93 RBI's / .829 OPS / 2.6 WAR
Albert was acquired in a trade from San Fernando in 2036 for the off injured OF Jayden Harsnett who was in the middle of his best season. Albert has been a consistent producer for TWC with his best season in 2038 where he hit 44 homers, accumulated 5.9 WAR and earned a Pucket Gold Bat. At 31 years old, he's still got some left in tank and is betting on himself by negating the remainder of his 4 years on his contract at approx $5.25 Mil/year.
SS Mark Wareham
.233 BA / .390 OBP / 27 HR / 48 SB / .811 OPS / 4.6 WAR
Mark is one of the last players left from the 2028 Expansion Draft still on the Twin Cities roster. He made his start originally with the old EBA team Munchen Brauers. At one time, rated the #6 Prospect in the BBA, Wareham made his BBA debut in 2030. Outside of an injury shortened 2038 season, Wareham has never put up less than a 3.5 WAR in a full season.
He's been the epitome of a Sabermetric player, never hitting for average, but able to hit for power and get on base with his elite eye. He's lead the league in walks in 6 of the last 8 season, setting a league record in 2034 with 162 Walks (2nd Alfredo Martinez - 149). He also owns 3 of the top 6 spots in the Season Records for Walks and is listed 6 times in the top 15. With his base stealing ability, he's been able to turn several of those walks into doubles.
Mark also owned the FL All Star and Gold Bat Awards for SS for 5 straight seasons until the phenom SS Angel Zapala stepped onto the scene.
After 10 seasons as a River Monster, Mark has opted out of the last three years of his contract at $14 Mil/year. It's definitely a tough pill to swallow to see Mark leave the team and watch him wear another uniform.
