2038.01 TWC - Twin Cities may release longtime River Monster - Reece Raynor
Reece Raynor
Career Stats - 9 Seasons - 239 Games (235 Starts), 90 Wins - 84 Losses, 4.40 ERA, 1575 Innings, 1.23 WHIP
Midway through the 2027 Season, the Twin Cities Front Office unceremoniously released River Monster OG Pitcher Jessie Stewart after 8+ seasons in the Twin Cities. The move was made to make salary cap room for Cris Rios, who was acquired in a trade. Jessie has since found a home in the newly formed, UEMBA, with the Jerusalem Hebrew Hammers.
Now, the Front Office is complating releasing his longtime Pitching Partner in Crime, Reece Raynor, who's currently putting $6 Million dent against a River Monster Salary Cap currently bumping near the cap. The team quietly put Reece out on the trade block and received crickets in response, which wasn't too surprising due to his decline in recent years.
Either way, it's the end of era for two guys who have seen the worst and best of the River Monsters since the team's inception in 2029. With the worst including a 50 win season in their first season (2029 - 2nd to Last) and last place finish in 2031. However, Reece has been important piece of the rotation for a River Monster club that's made the Post Season 3 times in the last 5 season... And the two times Twin Cities missed the playoffs was because they lost a play in game in the final day of season after being tied for the last Wild Card Spot.
While never top #1 or #2 Starters, both Reece and Jessie were key parts of the starting rotation, throwing tons of innings and giving the Team a chance to win most of the time they took the mound.
Due to the lack of response for Raynor as trade offer, the team plans to give him a chance to make the team in Spring Training as a 5th Starter to Long Relief guy. However, it looks like management is ready to give Rookie, Manuel Gonzalez first shot at the rotation.
If the team plans to make any moves later in the season, Reece's $6 Million salary is a definite liability.
But you never know, sometimes these guys find a little something left in the gas tank. It'd be a shame to not give him a one last chance.... And if he can still contribute as a full time starter from the #4/#5 Spot, his $6 Million salary will be a bargain instead of a liability.

At this point in the off season, Raynor is more a fall back plan. Teams are setting their sights on Flores, Greenwood, ect. Once the bigger names come off the board Raynor starts to look a lot better and you will get calls.
