2037.11 TWC - House of Cards Ready to Collapse

Post by Spiccoli » Fri Jan 18, 2019 4:44 pm

The 2037 Season has been by far the best year of the Twin Cities' Franchise in it's short History... However the battle of attrition is starting to take it's toll on the roster.

The obvious big blow early on was the loss of #1 Starter, Chris Kelly, who hurt his back in May and is schedule to be out for another 8 weeks. The Starting Rotation has responded by overachieving to make up for his loss. But Manager Juan Williams should not expect that to continue...

Jerry Coyle has been especially on his game this season, going 8-2 with a 2.98 ERA. The patch work rotation has done enough to keep the River Monsters in games and the offense has done it's part to take advantage.

However, in the last 2 weeks, the Injury Roulette has decided it's time to put Twin Cities' roster depth to the test. All starting three Corner Infielders were injured and at this time, there's no viable BBA level players to replace them all.

Chris Limon was just starting to come out his funk this season, when he went on the DL for 3 months. His back up, sometimes firstbasemen and sometimes platoon partner, Duane Whitney, went out shortly after.

Albert Ganoa was pulled off DH and put in to play first base and rookie Ricardo Aragon was tasked to take over Third. It appears that Aragon isn't ready for the big leagues and is struggling to hit .150. In the last week, Ganoa is going to join his corner infielder teammates on the DL for two months after pulling his hamstring running the bases (Domingo... where are you?).

Back up Catcher, Jorge Rios has done an adequate filling in the DH role, hitting .271 with 6 HR's in 96 At Bats. Former starting Catcher, Gerald Gonzalez was called from AAA to also get some time at the plate. However, options are looking extremely thin.

With a one third of the offense sitting on the DL for 2 months, the Front Office took a shot at boosting the the Starting Rotation. Cris Rios was brought in from Boise for a 17 year old IFA propect to try shore up the #3 or #4 spot. However, Rios has laid egg in his first 4 starts, going 0-2 with a 6.05 ERA. It's definitely too early to judge the trade a failure, but Fans and Front Office alike would have preferred a better outcome in the early going.

The end result of all this injury drama is Omaha steadily closing the gap for the Heartland Division lead. Twin Cities has been able to win the games it's supposed to, but has struggle against the top tier teams recently, like San Fernando and Omaha.

It's not all bad news, the River Monsters were able to stall Wolve's recent surge with a three game sweep in Madison. The team was also able to go into California and pull out three closely contested games against the Crusaders.

It's time for GM Scott Piccoli to decide whether to go all in and attempt to trade for big bat at DH/Corner Infield or the try to ride out the recent injury hit. However, at this time, key players like Chris Kelly, Ganoa and Limon aren't due back until early September...

And Twin Cities House of Cards may be Long Blown away before then...

A team has to be good, deep, and lucky to win the best division in baseball.
