Twin Cities was on fire, winning 11 games in a row and winnings 17 games in the last 19. The team had closed the gap with Long Beach from 7 games to 1 1/2. Everyone was riding high.

Then the River Monsters came to Des Moines... The Kernals have been brutal on Twin Cities, but Manager Juan Williams was hoping to change that.

However, three games and three losses later, it was obvious. The ride was over.

The achilles of Twin Cities have been extra innings game and this series was no different. The River Monsters lost two devastating extra inning games to Des Moines, bring their season Xinng record to 6-14. In one of those games, the last available bullpen reliever, Alejandro Alvarado was injured in the 15th inning. Bench Player, Hunter Eisenhower was brought to finish the inning and strand the baserunner on 1st. He did his job, inducing a groundball from Michel Lambert, but ball was misplayed by 1B Albert Ganoa. Des Moines singled the next batter and walked away with the win.

Probably for the best though, Hunter would have had to return for the 16th inning...

The back to back extra inning losses have took their toll on the bullpen. Between nagging day to day injuries and exhaustion, the only unscathed relief pitcher currently available is George Galetto.

In response, the Front Office has called up inured Will Franklen (Dtd Min - Hamstring) and the struggling Dan Estrada.

Hoping to survive the next two games with Omaha, Manager Juan Williams had said he's removing the pitch limit on Josh Brown and Chris Kelly. Both pitchers are capable of going deep into games and the bullpen desperately needs rest.

More importantly, Twin Cites needs at a least a split against Omaha to have any chance at a play off appearance when they play Long Beach in the series finale at Home.

Long Beach is 1 1/2 games up on Twin Cities, but has three games to play instead of Twin Cities's two before their matchup. Long Beach is facing struggling Hawaii in a three game set. If Long Beach sweeps Hawaii, Twin Cities has to split with Omaha or it'll be over for the River Monsters.

Either way, it's going to be an exciting next few days in the Frick League Wildcard chase.

Nothing like throwing a hall of fame pitcher out there in mop up time.

wow, Hunter Eisenhower! I don't think I've had any of my position players pitch before. We are 6-3 vs Hawaii this year, so hopefully it holds up and we win a couple. The last 3 games vs TWC definitely looks like it will be the deciding factor for the final playoff spot.
