2036.14 TWC Jerry Coyle returns to the Closer Role
Jerry Coyle
After blowing his 9th Save, reliever Jessie Stewart was removed from the closer role. Jerry Coyle was reinserted as the closer after performing well in the same role in 2034.
Twin Cities continues to lose close games late at an alarming rate. With an Extra Inning record of 5-13 and One Run Game Record of 19-26, fans have been continually disappointed with a team that seems to play well enough to win, but finds fun and exciting ways to lose late.
The loss of 2035 All Star Reliever, Jose Garcia, has left the team scrambling all season to straighten out the bullpen. He was fantastic last season, throwing 64+ innings with a 1.40 ERA. Jessie Stewart's numbers weren't terrible with his 3.43 ERA, but he was far too inconsistent with nine losses, seeming to crumble in high leverage situations.
Jose Garcia has made it clear that he believes his 2035 season is worthy of a several million dollar raise and has decided to test free agency after initial talks went sour early in the season. All this despite the fact he pitched zero innings in 2036 after getting injured during spring training.
Shoring up the bullpen will seem to be key fo rTwin Cities to return strong in 2037. Chris Kelly has been extremely sharp and the other starters seem to do well enough. Of course, finding a nice #2 starter would go a long ways as well.
For now, Jerry Coyle will spend the remainder of the season trying to lock down his position as a future closer.

You never realize how important the bullpen is until it's not working out.
