42.14 TWC - Twin Cities lose #2/#3 Starters for remainder of Season to injury

Post by Spiccoli » Fri May 15, 2020 9:36 am

Twin Cities resurgent season is faltering down the stretch. Over the past few weeks, the offense has definitely cooled off and the team has been playing near .500 ball, after being .620+ for most of the season. The past week, the team was struck with devastating news, losing their #2 & #3 starters for the remainder of the season.

While Twin Cities playoff chances aren't really in jeopardy. Omaha is hot in the team's trail to secure Home Field Advantage for the first round... which would likely be against Omaha. Unless, the team collapses to the 4th WC spot, which would mean a tough away series against Yellow Springs.

2042 Stats - 10W 8L - 5.13 ERA - 1.41 WHIP

The lesser of the two injured pitchers, Jose strained an ab muscle and appears to be out 3-4 weeks with a day to day injury. While the effect on his pitching may be minimal, the team will take no chances for the rest of the regular season in hopes he can recover by the play offs. If can come back in time, he'd be the #2 or #3 starter for the starting rotation.

A far more devastating on several levels, Knud tore his UCL is expected to be out for over a year. Just signed to a long term extension, beyond losing him for this season and the next... There's huge concern that he will suffer long term damage to his throwing arm.

It's not all bad news however, Chris Kelly has been fantastic in the "Rehab" starts at the BBA level with a limited pitch count. He's thrown 10.2 innings, giving up only 8 hits and 2 earned runs. With two weeks left in the season, the coaching staff has indicated they will gradually increase his pitch count and hopefully he'll be 100% ready by Play Off time.
