Charm City 2057.7 - Best of the Minor League Teams

The minor league systems have completed their seasons. It's that time of the year to give out the awards for each of our minor league teams pitcher and hitters of the year.

AAA - ANNAPOLIS SAILORS:

Best Hitter:
Former 2053 2nd round pick1B: Muti bin Amir was part of my spending spree in 2055 being signed to a $500,000 signing bonus in May 2055. bin Amir posted a very solid AAA season with a .291/.356/.542/.899 slash line to go along with 4.3 WAR and 34 homers with 92RBI this year. His strong 2057 could elevate him to challenge for the DH role in 2058.

Best Pitcher:
BBA #90 ranked prospect Leonard Thompson takes home the honor for the AAA pitchers. A waiver claim from Vancouver in September 2056, Thompson saved 37 games with a 3.29 ERA in 68.1 innings while striking out 70 batters. Thompson like, bin Amir could see some time in the majors next year.

AA - FREDERICK TRAVELERS:

Best Hitter:
This really surprised me. Util - Nicolo Penni was voted as the best AA hitter this year. The Swiss Army Knife of AA Penni hit .266/.350/.411/.761 with 2.6 WAR in 114 games. Penni looks to be more of a utility man if he makes the major league roster. I'm considering using him in that role next season.

Best Pitcher:
SP: Dan Boman went 10-6 with a 2.99 ERA and 109K's in 135.1 innings this year. Cruz, came to our organization as an unsigned free agent last year. I've been happy with his work thus far. I think he'll be starting the 2058 season in AAA.

A - CUMBERLAND MINERS:

Best Hitter:
Does the name SS: António Martínez takes home the award for best hitter in A ball despite only playing 45 games for Cumberland this year. What a 45 game run it was though. Martinez, our 3rd round pick from 2053, posted a .369/.441/.572/1.014 slash line with 2.2 WAR. Martinez was very impressive this year as he went from A ball all the way up to AAA this season.

Best Pitcher:
Tony Soto, came over in a trade from Vancouver in December 2056, went 11-2 with a savealong with a 2.55 ERA and 58 K's in 116.2 innings of work this year. Soto has work to do to advance, but it's one of those cases is it the performance or the ratings to see what triggers the improvement.

SA - CAYMAN ISLANDERS:

Best Hitter:
Our first round selection from 2056 3B:Husam Yusef surprised me quite a bit this year. Signed as a minor league free agent from Afghanistan, Yusef hit an impressive .317/.394/.460/.855 slash line with 7 homers and 40 RBI in 278 AB's this year. He's shown some improvement since being signed in 2052 and I'm excited to see what his future holds.

Best Pitcher:
Rafael Cedeño, a 17 year old and our 3rd round pick from 2056, had an impressive season being was 4-5 with a 3.40 ERA in 76.2 innings of work this year. Rafael slid to us in the 3rd round due to injury concerns, but he's been solid thus far.

R - ASSATEAGUE PONIES:

Best Hitter:
Mike Hauser had a very solid pro debut hitting .316/.400/.536/.936 with 2.8 WAR in 53 games prior to his promotion to Cayman. After being drafted in the 4th round this year Hauser has the chance to climb through the organization quickly if he continues to develop and excel.

Best Pitcher:
Finally Rafael Álvarez gets the nod as pitcher of the year for Assateague. He posted a 9-0 record with a 1.82 ERA in 99 innings or work this year. Álvarez was acquired in a trade from Yellow Springs in February this year has performed quite well thus far I'm excited to see what the future holds.
