I did an article last season that I enjoyed working on quite a bit focusing on the best hitter and pitcher at each level of our minor league system. I decided to to another one for the 2055 season as well.
AAA - ANNAPOLIS SAILORS:
Best Hitter:
OF: Geoffrey 'Flash' Dodson is a repeat winner of the award. Dodson this year had a .352/.436/.515/.950 stat line this year in AAA while generating 4.4 WAR. I was hoping to see Dodson contribute to the Charm City roster this season, but due to 40 man roster constraints and our team performing pretty well I didn't have the room for him.
Best Pitcher:
Robinson Pérez was a swing man for us this year in AAA. He pitched in 24 games and started 12 of them. He posted a 2.64 ERA while working 102.1 innings this year. Perez is going to have a shot at the active roster next season more than likely.
AA - FREDERICK TRAVELERS:
Best Hitter:
1B: Kyran Pencaitland was signed in May to a minor league deal and raked in AA. Pencaitland posted a .357/.426/.667/1.093 slash line with 4.3 WAR in 103 games.
Best Pitcher:
SP: Ty Vannatta started 17 games for AA this year with an 8-4 record and a 3.86 ERA. Vannatta was promoted later in the season to AAA and also made his big league debut in a spot start in July. He's another guy who could battle for a major league spot in 2056.
A - CUMBERLAND MINERS:
Best Hitter:
2B: Manuel Hernández, our 5th round pick in 2054, posted a solid .358/.429/.511/.940 stat line with 2.2 WAR before suffering a season ending injury in July.
Best Pitcher:
SP: Sa'id bin Wafiq was named as our best A ball pitcher. Wafiq, posted a 9-7 record this year with a 3.67 ERA In 135 innings with a 128 ERA+.
SA - CAYMAN ISLANDERS:
Best Hitter:
3B: Izz al Din bin Riyad was our 2nd round pick in this seasons draft and he had a very good debut. Riyad posted a solid 379/.432/.574/1.006 stat line for Cayman before being promoted to Cumberland.
Best Pitcher:
MR: Toby Froggatt was our 9th round pick in this years draft. He posted a 1.83 ERA in 39.1 innings this year while striking out 45.
R - ASSATEAGUE PONIES:
Best Hitter:
LF: Nelson Cadiou was our first selection in the 2055 draft and was the Ponies best hitter prior to his promotion to Cayman. Cadiou posted a .361/.434/.658/1.093 stat line with 11 homers and 38 RBI in 55 games. He was even better in SA.
Best Pitcher:
SP: César Bermúdez posted a 5-6 record, but with a 2.94 ERA in 88.2 innings. A 6th round pick in 2052, it was nice to see Bermúdez have his performance increase with some extended usage this year.
